Corporate governance and corporate law reform have been accorded greater attention by legislators in Malaysia, primarily as a consequence of the economic and financial distress between 1997-1998. This book seeks to examine some of the underlying reasons that have acted as catalyst for the rapid pace in which these reforms have been introduced. An analysis from another perspective is adopted in terms of investigating how the processes of modernisation, globalisation and computer technology have exerted a significant impact on these reforms. It discusses how these three forces have been combined with the influence of institutional investors and growth of cyberspace to reshape corporate governance and corporate law in Malaysia.
Recent legislative provisions that have been introduced are discussed in this book. These include the authority’s experimentation with capital controls, the introduction of the Report on Corporate Governance, the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange New Listing Requirements, the Capital Market Master Plan and the Financial Sector Master Plan.
